Washington D.C is a must-visit in the United States, it is the nation's capital and is rich in history and culture! One of the most important, and most famous sites in the city is the White House, where the President of the United States resides, and where business is taken care of. While in D.C. we wanted to stay close to the White House, and the National Mall so we could have easy access to all of the historical and cultural sites in the city. For this reason, the Hampton Inn Washington D.C. White House was a great choice. It is less than a 10-minute walk from the White House, and easily within walking distance to most sites in the National Mall. We paid zero dollars. Instead, we used 210,000 points to cover our entire three-night stay. The room typically runs about $250 to $300 per night when not booking with points.
Getting To Hampton Inn Washington DC White House Hotels:
There are a few travel options to get to the hotel from the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Rideshare like Uber and Lyft, taxis, public transit, and rental cars are all available from the airport. During our trip, we rented a car, and do not recommend it unless you have something specific planned where you need one. Most of the city is walkable or just a short Uber ride away, and not having to pay for parking and rental fees will save you money. We needed a car to work on a photo project during our stay, and it ran up a hefty bill of just under $500 for three days without parking expenses.

Unfortunately, we were unable to pick our car up when we arrived in D.C. since the rental car facility had already closed for the night at around midnight. We were unaware they closed and took the shuttle to the rental car station with two other groups only to find no one there. By the time we realized it was empty the bus had already driven off and would not be seen again. We had to wait at a dark, desolate bus station for an Uber to find us, and they kept canceling the ride since it was a hard spot to find. So again, unless you need the car, this might be a trip to skip it!
There were plenty of Ubers in the area, even at night. An Uber from the airport to the hotel was about $30 and took about twenty minutes. There are taxis available at the airport as well for those who are more comfortable catching a ride that way, however, there is no set rate from the airport to the city, and all rides are metered. An estimated cost from the airport to the Hampton Inn D.C in a taxi is about $20-$25, but could go higher or lower!
At the airport, there is also a Metrorail system that can get you into the city, and the fee no matter where you are going will be $6 or under! You can find out more information, and get a map of the routes on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority website here!
Check-in:
The check-in time for Hampton Inn Washington DC White House Hotel is 3:00 PM. Since we got to the hotel late at night (about 2:00 AM) the front doors of the hotel were locked. We had to press a doorbell to get buzzed into the building and the door would not work on the first few tries. It turns out we were standing in the wrong spot and the system was just really finicky, but we eventually got buzzed in. We checked in quickly at the front desk and got two bottles of water as we filled out the paperwork.
At check-in, we asked if the following day when we picked up our car if we needed to register it, and how much it would be to park per night. The man helping us informed us that parking was valet only and about $55 per night. We winced a little since the car was already so expensive, and he let us know that there was street parking right outside the hotel for a fraction of the valet cost. We appreciated the help he gave us and parked on the street during our stay with no issues. Parkmobile is a good app to have downloaded since most meters in the city can also be payed via the app. We were able to pay our meter in the morning without even having to get up out of bed!

Room Details:
We booked a king non-smoking room and paid 70,000 Hilton Honors points per night. The room typically runs about $250 to $300 per night when not booking with points. The room in general was pretty standard, with a small workstation, TV, bed, accent chair, and small bathroom with a standing shower. The room was clean, and besides a few small signs of wear and tear the room was in pretty good shape.

The only issues we had with the room came from the bathroom, it was really small and cramped. The toilet was wedged in between a wall and the sink counter making it hard to use, and the shower was so close to the toilet we could reach out and touch it. It felt a little claustrophobic to say the least. The shower had three big toiletry bottles attached to the wall, one for body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. Other than the small complaints about the bathroom, we had no issues with the room. The bed was comfortable, and we slept well throughout our stay. The room was clean and felt like it was in good condition.
Property:
The Hampton Inn D.C offers free breakfast to guests in the morning, and for those in a rush has a complimentary coffee bar in the lobby. We enjoyed grabbing a quick coffee as we ventured out into the city every morning. Additionally, the hotel has an indoor pool, small gym, business center, lobby lounge, and snack bar with treats for purchase.
We spent most of our time focused on a secondary project, so we did not test out the gym or breakfast, as we were usually gone when they were available. However, from a quick oversight, the breakfast and gym areas seemed to be pretty standard. We really liked that they left the coffee out and replenished it all day.
The location of the hotel is its best perk, it is less than a ten-minute walk to the White House, and made it super convenient to walk back and forth during our trip! The hotel is also nearby a bunch of different restaurants and cafes making it easy to grab a quick bite before heading out for the day.
Check-out:
The check-out time for Hampton Inn Washington D.C. White House is 12:00 PM. We did not do a formal checkout, and instead left our keys inside our room when we left. A few hours later we received an email from the hotel with a final copy of our receipt. Everything was billed correctly, and we did not have any issues with our receipt.
In summary, The Hampton Inn Washington DC White House Hotels:
This trip was pre-planned for another project, so we did not have a lot of time in the hotel to provide a complete review like we normally do. However, we wanted to highlight some key points about our stay. The Hampton Inn D.C. White House was clean and easy to find, and the staff were kind and helpful. The check-in process was smooth, and the front desk staff were attentive to our needs. Our only complaint was the small bathroom size, which is understandable for a downtown hotel, though it might be a consideration for those who prefer more space. The point redemption at this location is steep, considering this is still a Hampton Inn, but it saved us hundreds of dollars! We used 210,000 Hilton Honors points for our three-night stay, and overall had a good experience. The prime location to the White House and National Mall help justify the price per night!
