Downtown Los Angeles is a bustling business area, full of skyscrapers, restaurants, and even museums. Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown is as the name suggests located in the downtown area of Los Angeles. Within ten miles of the hotel are Dodger Stadium, Hollywood, and the Griffith Observatory. Although the hotel is close traffic in the area can be intense, and it can take close to 30 minutes to get anywhere at peak times! We stayed one night at Hotel Indigo in a king room and paid $305.61 and an additional $54 valet fee.
Getting To Hotel Indigo Los Angeles:
Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown is about 18 miles from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). It can take 20-50 minutes to get to the hotel from the airport depending on the time of day and traffic. There are a few different transportation options from the airport to the hotel; ride-shares like Uber, taxis, public transportation, and a rental car. Unfortunately, the hotel does not offer an airport shuttle service.
Uber is readily available throughout Los Angeles but can get expensive with surge pricing and traffic! A ride can range from around $40 to $60 for a basic ride. For those who need a little more room for luggage or are traveling in a group a larger ride (Uber XL) can be upwards of $100! Taxi rates are similar in price, at around $50 per ride!
The hotel website offers information on how to get to the hotel via public transit. You can access it from either the train or the subway. The train station nearest the hotel is the Los Angeles Union Station, about 2.2 miles from the hotel. The nearest subway station is the 7th St / Metro Center about 2.2 miles from the hotel.
Rental cars are also available at the airport and can be a good idea if you visit multiple spots throughout the city and the surrounding area. A basic sedan can range in price from about $50-65 per day, but additional fees add up quickly at the rental car counter! Coverage to protect yourself from liability can range from about $10-30 per day depending on the amount of coverage. On top of the liability, other fees are added like airport concession fees, licensing fees, etc. After all of the extra costs have been added, it can be close to $100 per day to rent a car!
For this trip, we drove our car down from Northern California so we did not need to find transportation in the city. However, when we do not drive down, we rent a car. It works the best for us!
Check-in:
The check-in process was fast and efficient! The check-in time for Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown is 4:00 PM, however we arrived later in the day due to a long road trip. The valet was at the hotel entrance and offered to help with our luggage. The valet is $50 per day. If you are uncomfortable with valet, there is a self-parking lot about a mile from the hotel. However, it costs $32 a day. Since costs were similar, we felt valet was worth it. It can be hot during summer and the walk to the garage was through a rough neighborhood. We only had one bag so we did not need help from the front desk. The staff was friendly and helped us quickly check in and get to our room!
Room Details:
We booked a king room and paid $305.61 for a one-night stay. The room had a lot of fun details like a colorful wallpaper behind the bed frame, and a funky black and white tiled bathroom. The bedding matched the colorful wallpaper and we found a breakfast menu between the pillows. It made us want to curl up in the sheets and place our order for the morning. The bed was inviting and we had a great night's sleep! The room was well-loved in spots, and it was evident that the hotel allowed pets. There was no pet hair or odor but the floors, walls, and furniture were scratched.
We enjoyed a small sofa and dining area next to the window overlooking the busy freeway, and in the distance, we could see a city skyline and the hills beyond.
The bathroom was spacious and came stocked with many towels and big bottles of toiletries. There was no tub, but instead a standing shower with a handheld shower head. The handheld shower head made showering difficult since it was low on the wall. The shower also had some flooring issues and leaked out into the rest of the bathroom. The toilet was right next to the shower, but sectioned off with a wall, this left the toilet wedged between two walls and made it feel cramped!
In the bedroom, there was a small Keurig machine along with a few pods of coffee and a bottle of water. There was a small safe in a drawer of the TV stand. We always enjoy it when there is an easy coffee machine in the room! It adds a touch of convenience to our mornings, allowing us to start the day with a fresh cup of coffee without leaving the comfort of our room.
Property:
The property has a fun and colorful restaurant/bar in the lobby, which offers dine-in and room service. We did not try the food during our stay but if any of you have let us know below if you enjoyed it!
The gym was a good size with machines, free weights, and cardio equipment. We had a good workout despite being away from home. The gym had a water and towel station and we liked getting a cold drink while we worked out.
Next to the gym is the pool, and it was clean despite it being peak summertime during our visit! The pool is a good size and has a lot of seating surrounding it.
Check out:
The checkout process was fast and efficient. The checkout time for Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown is 11:00 AM. We called down from our room to valet and to inform them we would be on our way out soon and did not have to wait too long in the lobby for the car. We left the keys in the hotel room and did not have to do a formal check-out in the lobby.
Summary:
For a one-night stay and valet parking at the Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown in a king room, we paid $359.61. We enjoyed the fun and funky interior of our room but felt that there were some inconvenient designs. The designs felt like cover-ups to damage caused by other guests and pets. Primarily we had issues with the bathroom! The loose shower head messed up flooring, and leaking shower made the room feel unattended. Despite the issues with our room, the property itself had a large gym with many machines making it easy to get in a full workout, and a clean pool. Other hotels in the area are similar in quality for a lower price! Do you think a stay at the Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown is worth your wallet, let us know below!
