Hotel Review; Hampton Inn Monterey

Updated: Sep 28

On our recent trip to Monterey Bay, we were looking to stay somewhere that would not break the bank but still be close to beaches and hiking. We opted to stay at the Hampton Inn Monterey for one night, and it cost a total of $221.25 for a king room with a sofa bed and fridge. The hotel is right off of the Monterey Coastal Trail and the Monterey Peninsula Recreational Trail and is less than a mile walk to the nearest beach. The hotel is great for those who may be looking for a quick trip to the beach, want to hike the coastal trail, or for those who don’t mind staying a little further from the touristy area of the city!

Getting To Hampton Inn Monterey:

The Hampton Inn Monterey is only a five-minute drive from the Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) for those who may be flying in, making it easily accessible via ride-share/taxi or public transit. We were driving in from the San Francisco area and opted to take the scenic route down Highway One. We will be releasing our road trip guide from the SFO airport to Monterey in August, stay tuned!

Check-in:

The staff at check-in were extremely kind while checking us in. Check-in time for the Hampton Inn Monterey is 3:00 PM, a little earlier than most chain hotels. There was a large school group that was staying the night there, and they were being loud and rambunctious running around upstairs. The woman at the front desk was extremely apologetic about the noise and told us she was sorry but our room was right by all of the kids. She said it was her only room left, apologized again, and told us to grab some water from the fridge in the lobby for free.

Room Details:

We booked a king room with a sofa bed and fridge, and that is exactly what we received. The room cost us $221.25 for one night, but parking was free and so was breakfast in the morning! The room was large and had a nice little sofa area to relax and watch TV, along with a small workstation with a desk and chair.

The room was clean, but the bathroom was sparkling! Everything in the bathroom was clean from the shower head to the sinks. We were so thankful that the bathroom was clean, and enjoyed taking a much-needed shower after being in the sun all day! The hotel provided toiletries, in the form of large refillable bottles attached to the shower wall, and they got the job done. Our only complaint about the bathroom is that we wish the toiletries were in tamper-proof bottles!

The bed was comfortable, but lacked pillows! The ones we got were not very firm and two of their pillows had the firmness of one regular pillow! The room cooled down fast with the A/C on and created the perfect ambiance for a great night's sleep.

Property:

The hotel does have a gym, but it is extremely small, and only has a few cardio machines and some dumbbells. Enough to get a small workout in, but it is cramped if there is more than one or two people in there at the same time!

We did enjoy free parking during our stay at the property, but we did have to register the car with the front desk staff at check-in! We also enjoyed free breakfast in the morning included in the room rate.

Check out:

Check out at this property was super easy! The check-out time was the standard 11:00 AM time you see with most chain hotels. We left our room keys in the room, and everything went smoothly. We did not have to stop by the front desk and sign any paperwork on our way out and instead received an email of our final receipt.

Summary:

We stayed one night at the Hampton Inn Monterey and paid $221.25 in total. The hotel is close to beaches, hiking, and food, but a few miles away from the main tourist strip of the city. Our experience was great; our room was exceptionally clean and the staff at check-in were friendly and helpful. Some noisy kids were staying for a school trip, but the staff was apologetic at check-in, and we had no problems with noise during our stay!  We enjoyed free self-parking in the small lot around the hotel, and free breakfast in the morning. Based on our experience we would stay here again when we need a beach day! Do you think a stay at the Hampton Inn Monterey is worth your wallet, let us know below!

(Sorry for the lack of images! This post was unplanned, but we had such a great experience we thought we should share!)
